Police hunt for burglars who targeted elderly couple

POLICE in Warrington are appealing for information following a high value burglary at the address of a vulnerable elderly couple in Glazebury.

The incident took place sometime between 1.30pm and 3.30pm on October 20, when offenders broke into a house in Warrington Road and ransacked the house.

They then ripped open a cupboard and stole a safe containing a large amount of cash and paperwork.
The occupants were out at the time of the burglary.

DC Stacey Nolan said: “The couple who are in their 80s, were left shaken by their ordeal. We believe they were specifically targeted because of the chance that they could have had a large amount of cash in their home.

“I’d urge those with elderly relatives to make sure they aren’t keeping large amounts of cash in their home.

“No matter how good you think your hiding place is, even if you are using a safe, they will find it. As we’ve seen here, it didn’t matter that it was in a safe, they were still able to take the money. Putting it in a bank is the only option.”

DC Nolan added: “Burglary is a distressing crime which can leave victims feeling vulnerable because they fear the offenders may return, this added to the violation of someone being in their home and stealing from them compounds the distress burglary causes.

“I would urge anyone who has any information or who saw any suspicious activity in the area of Warrington Road in Glazebury to contact me so that we can find those responsible and prevent further elderly and vulnerable people becoming victims.”

Anyone with information should contact DC Stacey Nolan on 101 quoting incident number 585 of 20 October 2015. Alternatively information can be given anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

  1. I detest anyone who breaks in to anyones property and steals from them but these people who intentionally prey on the elderly are the absolute scum of the earth and pure evil. They need locking away for good if they are ever caught!! How on earth do they sleep at night knowing what they have done? How would they feel if someone did it to their own family, their parents, their grandparents etc….
This elderly couple will probably never ever feel safe again let alone sleep soundly in their own home from now on because of the fear these low lifes have left them with.
