A 1.4 kilometre long off-road link between Westbrook and Sankey Valley has been officially opened, providing a safer route for residents to travel in Warrington
The Westbrook-Dallam greenway provides a new addition to the borough council’s walking and cycling network.
The three-metre wide track runs between the red bridge roundabout at Westbrok and Sankey Valley for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooter users.
It has 1.5 kilometres of connecting routes to nearby estates and has been  designed to ensure all weather usage and durability, and to discourage anti-social motorcycle use.
The greenway is one of several new sections of cycle routes delivered by the council’s Transport for Warrington Service and funded by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).
Cllr. Hans Mundry, the council’s lead member for highways, transportation and public realm, said: “The new greenway is a great demonstration of the council’s commitment to sustainable travel schemes, and a superb addition to Warrington’s transport network.
“The greenway will encourage more active travel, contributing to improved public health, reducing car use, traffic levels, air pollution and traffic noise.
“Residents will be able to use it for their daily commute, to access local services and businesses or simply to enjoy a safe and traffic free journey in the attractive open space that has been opened up.”
