Grappers move into second place

GRAPPENHALL moved into second place in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League second division with a 20 point win over struggling Bredbury at Broad Lane.
Winning the toss, Grappenhall skipper Steve Titchard asked the visitors to bat first and they responded by hitting 231 in 50 overs on a wicket that offered little encouragement to the bowlers.
Andy Tetlow took 3-30 and Titchard 2-75.
In reply Grappenhall made a good start with openers Roylance and Ian Wright moving the score along to 40 off the first 10 overs. However, both openers went together and when the in form Park departed with the score on 83 there was still 150 runs required from 27 overs.
Titchard was bowled for 28 which then brought to the crease wicket keeper Parkinson to join the in form Willie Sharp and they proceeded to plunder 70 runs from the next seven overs
When Sharp was eventually dismissed for a magnificent 88 the game was virtually won and it was left to Parkinson to finish the game off with a swashbuckling 45 not out.
Grappenhall 2nd went down by 16 runs at Oulton Park where the home side elected to bat first and totalled 214.
Left arm spinner Roylance picked up his first five wicket hall for a cost of 63 while paceman Sam Guest took 4-50.
Opener Dave Nicholson hit 58 when Grappenhall replied and with Langhorne contributing 30, Grappers seemed on course for victory. But a mid-order collapse followed and Mark Roylance hit an unbeaten 24 to secure maximum batting points before Ash Higham was bowled in the 49th over trying to win the game.
Grappenhall 3rd elected to bowl first against Poynton at Broad Lane and dismissed the visitors for 182. Adam Roylance took 2-38, James Edgerton 2-15 and Neil Muttock 2-45.

The opening batsman got us off to a steady start. Runs were hard to come by with some tight bowling, but Neil Muttock and Mark Tyerman put on 50 for the first wicket. Seventeen-year-old Bradley Angel hit 54 not out – his maiden half-century – and Grappenhall reached their target with two wickets and two balls to spare to earn the side 20 points.
Grappenhall’s Over 40s team kept up their unbeaten run with victory over Barnton.
Batting first, Grappenhall hit 126 in 20 overs, Mark Critchley top scoring with 30 not out, assisted by Mervyn Roberts, 27 and Paul Green, 22 and a brisk 17 not out from Steve Guest.
In reply Barnton were restricted to 76 with Nick Sharp pick of the bowlers with 3-7.
Warrington went down by eight runs at Timperley.
The home side batted first and were restricted to 168-5. Warrington also found runs hard to get but stayed in the hunt until the very end. The last wicket fell with 160 on the board. James Hughes top scored with 61 while Richard Batey hit an unbeaten 49.
In the Cheshire Alliance division one Appleton picked up a welcome five wicket victory at Wilmslow Wayfarers.
The home side batted first and scored 164-9, Duane Jones taking 3-28.
Appleton reached their target comfortably hitting 165-5, Richard Clarke scoring 32 not out and Tom Lomas 43.
Rylands triumphed by just three runs in a nail-biting match at Heaton Mersey Village.
The visitors batted first and were all out for 140, Richard Buck top scoring 46. HMV were dismissed for 137 with A Hansom taking 5-56.
At Glazebury, the home side beat Styal by 98 runs. Glazebury scored 206-8 with skipper Chris Lord scoring 64 and Phil McCue 36. Styal were bowled out for 108 with Sam Stanier taking 4-22 and Jon Gibbons 3-19.
Glazebury 2nd won by 60 runs at Knutsford, batting first and totalling 188-9. Simon Green and David Gibson both hit 39. Knutsford were dismissed for 128.
Appleton 2nd were beaten by 30 runs by Kerridge.
The visitors batted first and were dismissed for 133 but Appleton were dismissed for 103, opener Marcus Pepper top scoring with 20.
Appleton 3rd went down by three wickets against Wirral.
Appleton posted 145-7, Kevan Lomas hitting 49 and Andrew Thorley 30. When Wirral batted, Michael Cumberland, 2-46 and Roger Cawthorne, 2-47, both bowled well but Wirral were able to reach their target 146-7.
