Garage-into-home plan

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to take a second look at controversial proposals to convert a stone-built garage into a dwelling at Walton.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee have been to inspect the site in Walton Road.
At their last meeting they deferred a decision after hearing of local objections.
Walton Parish Council objected on the grounds  the development at the locally-listed house would represent overdevelopment of the site and be out of character with the area.
A nearby resident also argued that proposed provision of off-street parking was impractical.
The plan involves converting the garage into a dwelling and also rebuilding an existing vinery to create a garden store and bike store.
Planning officers are still recommending it be approved.
Planners say the stone-built garage is a prominent feature on the street scene and one which positively adds to the character and appearance  of the area.
While there is space to park only two vehicles there is adequate space on-street in the vicinity without creating residential disamenity or highway safety issues.
