A WARRINGTON golf club has become the 100th club in the country to receive the prestigious Golfmark status.
Birchwood Golf Club was handed the award in recognition of their commitment to and willingness to develop junior golf.
Nearly 500 clubs registered for the initiative, which has seen the Birchwood club work closely with the English Golf Union and the English Women’s Golf Association.
The club’s junior section has now grown to include more than 50 members and is now working to develop a junior academy.
Spokesman Phil Kirkham, said: “Working through the new GolfMark accreditation system has given us the opportunity to re-assess and develop all areas of our junior section. GolfMark accreditation is the ‘icing on the cake’ which allows us to offer a complete golfing package for children of all school ages, in a friendly, safe and professional environment, which can only be good for them and the future of the game.”
Anyone wanting further information about joining the junior section at Birchwood can contact either Graham McCormack or Phil Kirkham at the club or visit their website at www.bgcjuniors.co.uk
