Volunteers take action at Gorse Covert Mounds

A GRANT from Neighbourhoods in Warrington has assisted volunteers on another action day at Gorse Covert Mounds.

The £370 grant funded skips for the clean-up, as well as new tools and a wheelbarrow. 14 volunteers helped out for four hours, filling a large skip.

Nigel Balding, Chair of the Woodland Trust’s Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds, said: “Volunteer events add an extra dimension to looking after some of our most treasured green spaces and practical events can help bring the community together to tackle problems such as rubbish and littering.

“If those people who leave rubbish come to realise just how much damage they do and how much the community disapprove, then it should put them off.

“We achieved a lot, removing items dumped there years ago.

“It is satisfying to have them shifted at last and shows what can be achieved by a few people who care about their local area and environment.

“I always enjoy coming to the volunteer days at Gorse Covert Mounds because of the enthusiasm of everyone involved.”
