Businessman adopts retired greyhound

A WARRINGTON businessman has a new company mascot after adopting a retired greyhound.

Paul Clark, owner of Ovenu Warrington, has rehomed four year old greyhound Rocky, whose racing name was Quivers Roxy, from the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT).

Ovenu Warrington will be paying to look after the dog, including vet bills and day-to-day living, after his racing days were cut short by a leg injury which he sustained in a recent accident.

Before he was adopted, Rocky was looked after by Retired Greyhound Trust (registered number 269668 & SC044047), which is dedicated to finding loving homes for greyhounds when their racing days are over.

Founded in 1975, the Trust operates a network of more than 70 branches across Britain, run by volunteers.

Paul Clark said: “Rocky is such a fantastic new addition to our family. He’s really starting to settle in to his new home and is getting on well with our other greyhound, Kizzy.

“No ex-racing greyhound should be without a loving home and the Trust does great work finding new families for the dogs who are often forgotten about when their racing days are over.

“Rocky is becoming a bit of an Ovenu mascot and a hit with many of my customers who often ask about his progress. I’m hoping that it may raise awareness for the charity and result in a few more dogs finding new homes.”

Kevin Stow, from the Retired Greyhound Trust, said: “At the Trust, our priority is to rehome every ex-racing greyhound that we take in and we are succeeding thanks to our volunteers giving up their time to help man’s best friend.

“We are thrilled that another one of our greyhounds has been re-homed and adopted by a loving family and we would like to say thank you to Paul.”
