Cutting edge new sports centre near to completion

CUTTING edge new sports facilities at Warrington’s Victoria Park are near to completion thanks to a £4.4 million transformation.
Borough council leader Terry O’Neill and deputy leader Mike Hannon have visited the site and were impressed with the progress.
The development, which started in January, is set to officially open in the autumn with a wide range of new facilities.
There will be a new, fully accessible sports stand with viewing areas, changing rooms, WCs, kitchen and community room and a new, competition standard, floodlit rugby and football pitch, fenced to ensure security.
In addition, improvements to the existing pitches  will enhance drainage, further increasing the quality of the pitch surface, helping them to remain in use all year round.
There will also be improvements and enhancement to existing car parking facilities.
The new 300-seat sports stand will provide spectators and the community with a high quality, multi-purpose, fully accessible facility which will be available for use by community clubs and groups.
In addition Warrington Wolves will use the new facilities as a match ground for their junior and non-Super League games.
Latchford Albion ARLFC will also use the ground.
Cllr O’Neill said: “It was fabulous to preview the new facilities. This provides yet another council project that will be a fantastic asset to our town. Adding to the improvement works completed in 2013 which
brought the running track up to competition standard, this is now one of the finest outdoor sports facilities in the North West.”
Councillors Les Morgan and Maureen McLaughlin have also visited the site to see the great progress which has been made.
The regeneration work at the 67 acre Victoria Park is a key part of the “Warrington Means Business” development framework for growth and is being funded from the council’s capital programme.
