A NEW bus war in Warrington is well and truly in motion – with local people responding well to a free bus travel day launched by local operator David Fairborther.
He responded to Wrexham based GHA starting a service in the town by launching a Free bus travel day as well as FREE lottery for his passengers.
David says he has received very positive comments from the people of Warrington supporting the cheaper alternative transport being offered by his company.
One passenger said: “What Mr Fairbrother has done for the town is brilliant. Bus travel was becoming almost impossible to afford for none car owners.”
David had to start operating a commercial service after Warrington Borough Council cut subsidies for school travel.
Fairbrothers have co-existed alongside fellow Warrington based Network Warrington but David said: “Three bus operators in one area is too many!”
David has a fleet of 20 vehicles mainly operating in the Orford, Dallam, Latchford, Bewsey and Whitecross areas.
Bus wars first came into Warrington following bus de-regulation when North Western Road Car and Mersey Bus launched a twin pronged attack on Warrington Borough Transport in 1995.
To help promote his business David has been using an original Warrington Borough Transport double decker bus.
