Fears over Creamfields policing

WORRIED councillors have expressed concern that the level of policing at this year’s Creamfields festival may prove inadequate.
Cheshire Police say 750 officers will be on duty at the event on August 23 – roughly the same number as last year.
But because the festival will span three days, the officers will work in shifts meaning only about a third will be on duty at any given time.
Chairman Coun John Price told Appleton Parish Council: “I think it would be fair to say the police don’t seem to have the grip on the situation as they have had in previous years.
“The number of officers may be about the same but they will now be working in shifts over the three days which means the number at any one time will be cut by a third. We will not have the same police cover.
“There will be about 20,000 campers and about 20,000 others, possibly looking to put their heads down somewhere – perhaps in someone’s barn.”
He suggested a senior police officer be invited to the next meeting to clarify the situation with regard to police numbers.
