CYCLE-mad tourists are looking to trace their family footsteps in Warrington while taking part in National Cycle Week.
From the moment Gene Marcowka and partner Jenny Charles touched down in England, their first thought was cycling – so they rode from Manchester Airport to Stockton Heath.
The pair are visiting Warrington to do some family research as Gene’s grandmother, Alice Myles, was a GI bride, meeting her husband, Frank Wallens, at a dance at Burtonwood Airbase.
Both Alice and Frank lived in Trafford Avenue, Bewsey, before moving to Chicago with their daughter, Gene’s mother, Mary.
Now Gene and Jenny are researching their family history and taking in some of the delightful sights England has to offer – all by bicycle!
They will be riding to Chester, Staffordshire, Stratford upon Avon, Oxford and finally London, before heading back to the States.
Because of the need to stock up on energy for their trip, Gene and Jenny sampled the delights of some of the local pubs and cafes in Stockton Heath before setting off on their journey.
National Cycle Week runs until Sunday, June 22. For more information log on to http://www.bikeweek.org.uk
