College girls celebrate success

FOOTBALLING females from a Warrington college are celebrating being crowned champions of the North Area College League.
Priestley College’s seven-a-side girl’s team triumphed in a gruelling play-off to beat arch-rivals Holy Cross College in the final by a goal to nil.
Finishing second in the league stage of the completion, the Warrington side came out on top of their semi-final clash against Blackburn College, edging them out 5-4.
They beat Holy Cross, who finished top of the group stage, thanks to a late strike from Claire Cassidy.
The whole of the North West is split into two groups, North and South, with the highest placed teams entering a play-off in their respected divisions.
Proud coach Danielle Toward said: “Having progressed to the final we were all biting our nails towards the end as both ourselves and Holy Cross couldn’t be separated on the scoreboard. However up popped Claire when it mattered to ensure the trophy came back to Warrington.
“I would like to wish the girls who leave us this summer all the best and remain confident that we can enjoy further success next year.”
