PRESIDENT of Ireland Mary McAleese will be visiting Warrington on Thursday to learn about peace initiatives in the town.
She has been invited to the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Young People’s Peace Centre by Colin and Wendy Parry to learn about the work undertaken at the centre since it opened 15 years ago.
The Foundation has worked with 20,000 young people and adults to tackle some of the key issues facing communities today -prejudice, discrimination and violence.
Its innovative educational and leadership programmes are in demand across the UK and its ‘Survivors for Peace’ programme, which works with adults affected by terrorism or politically motivated violence, is networked across Europe.
Founder and chairman of the centre, Colin Parry said: “We are delighted that President McAleese has chosen to visit the Peace Centre. The Foundation was set up as a result of a terrorist attack and we now work with young people from different cultures, faiths and backgrounds, showing how conflict can be resolved non-violently.”
Mary McAleese will be visiting Warrington this Thursday, June 5, at 9.45am.
