Benefit bus arrives in town

PEOPLE in Warrington can check whether they are entitled to any benefits when a special bus rolls into town today.
The Benefit Bus visits from June 2 to 6 and staff aim to help people to claim benefits.
Last time the bus was in Warrington, in April, scores of people were offered advice about claiming – and one Padgate couple receiving more than £2,000 in backdated benefit.
From Monday to Thursday it will be at the entrance to Warrington Market and on Friday it will move to Birchwood Shopping Mall.
It has state of the art satellite equipment installed and within seconds staff will be able to tell people of their entitlement to both Housing and Council Tax Benefit.
The bus is part of a Greater Manchester initiative designed to boost take up of both benefits – which have low levels of take up nationally.
Adrian Webster, the council’s benefit manager, said: “We believe that hundreds of people in Warrington are missing out on thousands of pounds of unclaimed benefit – we will be using the bus to help as many people as possible.”
