Clergyman's new educational book

A WARRINGTON clergyman has published a new educational book aimed at primary school children.
“Care for the World” by the Rev Chris Stafford, Rector of Newchurch, Culcheth, has a strong environmental message and is an assembly book – that is, a book designed for teachers to use during school assemblies.
It is in three sections and could be used by teachers or visiting speakers at schools.
One section deals with times and seasons, with material on Harvest, Remembrance, Advent, Christmas, Lent and East.
The main section is on the environment dealing with general issues such as caring for God’s world to more specific ones such as greenhouse gases, over-fishing, animal extinction, waste, alternative energy, etc.
The third section looks at issues such as bullying, asylum seekers, when someone dies, science and faith, poverty and fair-trade, community and relationships and people with disabilities.
There is also a collection of resources at the back of the book including “green” websites and books, puppet resources etc.
It is the second assembly book the Rev Stafford has written and he believes it to be the first to deal with environmental issues. With a background in biology he was well qualified to tackle such issues.
He said: “It took about a year to complete, although it was mostly written during two months last summer.”
The book is published by Kevin Mayhew Ltd at £16.99. More details are available at www.kevinmayhewltd.com
