WARRINGTON Borough Council will hold its annual meeting next Monday, May 19.
Main business of the meeting will be to elect the town’s new Mayor, Coun Graham Welborn (pictured), who has been deputy Mayor for the last 12 months.
Coun Brian Axcell has been recommended to become deputy Mayor.
The meeting will also elect the leader and deputy leader of the council and eight members of the executive board, as well as councillors to serve on the various committees of the council.
Coun Axcell will, if normal procedures are followed, next year become the third successive Liberal Democrat Mayor, and the fourth since the late Coun Ted Lafferty became the first Lib-Dem Mayor in 2004-5
Coun Welborn, born in Orford, is a retired teacher and has been a councillor for Latchford West ward for three years. He is a member of the executive of Latchford Forum and is an associate governor of Latchford CE Primary School.
Married to Elaine, the couple have a grown up son and daughter and two grandchildren.

Three Lib Dem mayors in a row? So what happened to Ian Marks and his pledge to rotate the office of mayor amongst the three major parties? Yet another example of spin from the Lib Dems – you seriously can’t trust a word that they say!
