Top award for leisure centre

A WARRINGTON leisure centre has been hailed as a shining light when it comes to saving energy after they received a top award from the Carbon Trust.
Broomfields Leisure Centre in Stockton Heath has been given a Combined Heat and Power Saving Certificate from the Trust.
They received the award for their continued hard work in becoming energy efficient, as they managed to save 14 tonnes of CO2 in the past year – the equivalent of 2,168 mature trees!
The award is seen as perfect recognition for the council’s ongoing plan to help the environment and reduce the carbon footprint of all Select Leisure centres.
Council chiefs have outlined their objectives for leisure centres to provide a blueprint for good practice and a consistent approach across all centres with regard to energy and efficiency and recycling, support the council’s commitment to energy and efficiency and recycling and work with the council’s energy officer, attain funding to implement energy related schemes and maintain best practice within the leisure services.
Borough council executive member for Environment Service Brian Axcell said: “The Combined Heat and Power Plant at Broomfields Leisure Centre is a real state-of-the-art piece of equipment. The staff at Broomfields have shown just how much energy can be saved and emissions reduced when best practice is followed.”
