Schools go into business together

TWO Warrington schools have joined forces to set up an enterprise cafe designed to give learners an early insight to the world of business.
Reception children from Locking Stumps Primary have teamed up with Birchwood High School to open the cafe in the hope of raising enough money to buy new play equipment at the primary school.
Primary school children served food to a group of hungry parents and held a raffle for prizes which they had received from local businesses and made themselves as part of class work.
The business project has been integrated into the curriculum of the primary school, with all the class writing letters to local businesses for donations, suggesting ideas on how to spend money they raise and creating crafts, cakes and wellington pegs to sell in the cafe.
Under the theme of bugs, pupils designed their own special uniforms covered in drawings of creepy crawlies.
Foundation Stage co-ordinator at the school, Alli Jenkinson, said: “This is the first time the school has ever done anything like this and I would definitely do it again with reception. We worked on the cafe over half term as well as in class and the children have really enjoyed it.
“We hope to raise about £200 to put towards new play equipment. They have got a lot out of it and have just loved it. It has been a roaring success.”
Birchwood High makes donations available for schools that want to participate in an enterprise scheme, and gave Locking Stumps £60 towards the cafe.
