Couple attacked in street

A MAN was left with a gash to the back of head after being assaulted with a weapon in the early hours of this morning.
The victim, 19, from the St Helens area, had to have a two-inch gash glued at hospital after being struck by what police believe was a wheel wrench.
Another victim, an 18-year-old girl, from the Prescot area, was also left with bruising following the attack in Academy Street at around 5am.
The pair were walking on Academy Street when a Blue Mercedes car pulled up to them and a man jumped out of the vehicle to attack them.
It is believed that an earlier incident involving two groups, who were verbally abusing each other, also in Academy Street, could have lead to the incident.
Police are now appealing for anyone with any information about either of the two incidents to contact DC Alison Howarth at the Warrington Specialist Investigation Unit on 01244 613 831, or alternatively, leave information with Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
