Schools hit by strike action

FIFTEEN schools are set to be closed in Warrington with many others affected by the teachers’ strike this Thursday (April 24).
Warrington Borough council has now heard back from all schools as to whether they will be open as normal, partially closed (some years or classes affected) or closed altogether.
Twelve schools will be fully closed on Thursday. The local authority is now working with all schools to try and minimise the impact of any closures on children and their parents or guardians.
Schools which will be completely closed are:

  • Birchwood C E Primary
  • Bruche Community Primary
  • Callands Primary
  • Dallam Community Primary
  • Fox Wood School
  • Glazebury C E (Aided) Primary
  • Latchford C E (Aided) Primary
  • Sankey Valley St James’ C E Primary
  • Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High
  • St Benedict’s Catholic Primary
  • St Barnabas C E Primary
  • Sycamore Lane Community Primary
  • Brook Acre Community Primary
  • St Gregory’s Catholic High
  • St Oswald’s Catholic Primary

Pinaki Ghoshal, head of school improvement and inclusion, said: “We have been working hard with schools to encourage them to stay open so that all pupils can continue to learn. We hope to keep disruption to a minimum, particularly for those young people who are facing external exams.”

The advice to parents is:

  • if your child’s school will be closed, or the teaching affected by the strike, you will receive a letter from the school
  • the council will be updating local radio stations of all closures so listen in for the latest news as to which schools are affected

Some classes or year groups may be affected in other schools. Those with partial closures are:

  • St Augustine’s Catholic Primary
  • St Margaret’s C E Voluntary Aided
  • St Philip (Westbrook) C E Aided
  • St Stephen’s Catholic Primary
  • St Thomas’ C E Primary
  • Statham Community Primary
  • The Cobbs Infant
  • Thelwall Community Junior
  • Westbrook Old Hall Primary
  • William Beamont Community

FIVE schools affected by partial closure have confirmed that certain classes will be affected. They are:.
Grappenhall Heys Primary (closed for Yr2, Yr3 and Yr5), Sacred Heart Catholic Primary (closed for YR, Y1, Y2 and Y4), St Augustine’s Catholic Primary (closed to Y2, Y3 and Y5), St Margaret’s C E Voluntary Aided Primary (closed to Class 2 Year 3, Class 6 Year 5, Class 7 Year 6), Thelwall Junior (closed to 6H, 5B, 3/4H, 3E).
