£1,000 boost for blind society

WARRINGTON, Widnes and District Blind Society is celebrating receiving a cheque for £1,000 by making plans update its kitchen equipment.
The society was given the money for winning an O2 Your Community Award after being nominated by company employee Victoria Crewe.
As a locally based organisation, run entirely by volunteers, the society regularly holds sessions for more than 50 people with sight problems of varying degrees.
These twice weekly sessions are extremely important for members who have very limited opportunities to socialise and meet with other people in their daily lives.
Because the society completely relies on its own fundraising efforts for cash, the donation is sure to make a big difference.
Bob Verey from the society said: “We were delighted to win this award. Our kitchen was is in desperate need of some new equipment and so the money will make a huge difference.”
Victoria was on hand to donate the award to the society and was delighted they received the money. She said: “I think the Warrington, Widnes and District Society for the Blind is a great asset to our community and I am very pleased that O2 was able to support them.”
