AN elderly man was led to safety early today when fire broke out at a house in Weir Lane, Woolston, Warrington.
A neighbour heard a smoke alarm sounding in the house and went to the man’s assistance.
The fire involved a waste bin in the living room and fire experts believe it was started by a discarded cigarette.
Three fire engines from Warrington and Birchwood were called to the scene at 3.45am.
Firefighters found the living room full of smoke and used a ventilation unit to clear it.
But the fire was already out.
The occupant was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
