Unlucky Town suffer narrow defeat

Retford 2 Warrington Town 1
THE Yellows travelled to run away leaders Retford looking to get back on track after their 7-1 demolition at the hands of Colwyn Bay on New Years Day.
Town had to absorb some early pressure from the home side, clearing one effort off the line to keep the scores level.
After gaining a foothold in the game, Town took the lead through young striker Connor Taylor who beat the off side trap and finished well past Kingston in the Retford goal.
It was Warrington on the back foot again soon after as the league leaders looked for an immediate reply, which they almost got but for a good save from Town keeper Shane McWeeney and another goal line clearance.
Retford did however grab the equaliser soon after when Bahamas international Neil Harvey took advantage of a mistake to fire convincingly past McWeeney.
The game was back in the balance with town fighting back and midfielder Francis Smith tested Kingston at his near post.
The home side finished the half strongest with McWeeney being forced into a terrific save to deny Harvey from grabbing his second.
Retford came out of the traps quickest in the second half and took the lead in a controversial manner when Harvey fired the ball into the roof of the net from what looked to be an off side position.
Undeterred, The Yellows fought back through good efforts from striker Karl Rendell and winger Chris Robinson, both being denied by Kingston.
Retford should have sealed the game in the 70th minute, but midfielder Steve Owens fired over from a good position.
The last chance of the game fell to Town captain Tom Spearitt, whose header, deep in injury time, flashed across the face of the Retford goal and away to safety.
Town will now have to pick themselves up in time for Tuesday nights Liverpool Cup clash with Prescott Cables, with the winner facing either Liverpool or Everton in the Semi-final.
