A FOOTPATH used unofficially for more than 50 years looks set to become “official.”
Warrington Borough Council’s traffic committee is being recommended to designate the path between Whitesands Road and Whitbarrow Road, Lymm at a public footpath.
The move will mean the definitive rights-of-way map for the area will be modified.
An application was received by the council in September last year for the path to be added to the rights-of-way map. It was supported by Lymm Parish Council on the grounds the path had been used unchallenged for more than 20 years.
In fact, there is evidence of the path being in use since 1956 in its present form, when houses were built in the area and since 1948 prior to that.
A nearby resident has given evidence of “long uninterrupted, unchallenged” use of the path by the public.
The committee will be told next Wednesday (April 9) that the evidence shows the path was used daily by people visiting school, shops, the Bridgewater Canal and village centre. Owners of the land have no objection to the use.
Footpath to become official!
