It’s TV and not film, I know, but I watched the production on BBC4 tonight and it was brilliant. Hugh Bonneville played Mr Pooter to perfection, I’ve read the book several times and his characterisation was spot on.

The book was originally a serialisation in Punch magazine in the 1880s. Although it obviously reflects its era it’s still funny, ironic and a great study of a lower middle class, middle aged man who’s a bit of a twerp.

If you missed the TV production, look out for any repeat. It’s well worth watching.
