A recent bio pic of Australia’s swim champion, Tony Fingleton, shows him with a decision to make in 1962 — keep an eye on the Olympics, or accept a full scholarship to Harvard (during JFK’s presidency). He tells him mum ‘don’t worry, it’s only for four years, I’ll come back’. But Judy Davis knows that she’s lost her son. He marries an American girl one day after graduating from Harvard and lives to this day in New York City with their two daughters.

The background is that he comes from an alcoholic father, Geoffrey Rush, and an abused mother, to succeed beyond his dreams. If you like swimming competitions, this is a perfect film, since much of it is swimming against his own brother.
