Pyjama boy found
wandering in street

by staff reporter

POLICE launched a hunt at Warrington over the weekend to try and find the parents of a toddler found wandering in the street early on Saturday morning.
The boy, aged two or three, was found by a member of the public in Shetland Close, off Enfield Road.
He appeared well but was wearing pyjama bottoms and a tee shirt.
Police issued an appeal for the parents to come forward – and eventually they were traced, although by this time the boy was in the care of Warrington Children’s Service.
Today, a police spokesman said the incident was still being investigated and it was still to early to say what the final outcome would be.
But the boy had been returned to his parents, he added.

RAF medic gets
her cartoon “wings”

by Lesley Wilkinson

A CHILDREN’S book telling the story of a jolly police officer and his adventures has been illustrated by a Lymm woman even though she has no training in art.
The book, PC Dann Beware of the Bull, was published by Diggory Press in August and is currently their fourth best seller.
The A4 full colour book aimed at young children features the clever drawings of the comical character by Ailsa Birchenough, 25, of Ridgeway Gardens, Lymm.
“I have no training and have never done any illustration before, but my colleague Carl Simmons wrote the book and asked me to illustrate it,” she said. “PC Dann is a cartoon police officer in his 40s with a round, rosy face.”
Ailsa, a former Lymm High School pupil, studied psychology at Sheffield Hallam University. She is currently studying for a diploma in mental health nursing at Salford University and has signed up as a medic with the RAF Reserves at Lynham, near Swindon.
She works part-time as a care officer at the David Lewis Centre for Epilepsy near Alderley Edge.
“I have decorated a couple of rooms at the centre with jungle and underwater scenes,” she said.
Carl invited her to do the 16 drawings for his book after seeing her work.
“It’s strange to see the drawings in the book, but I was pleased with the results,” she said. “My family and friends have all bought copies.”

Family’s tribute
to tragic sister

by Terry Johnson

SIX family members and their partners are to pound the streets to help blood cancer sufferers – in a tribute to the courage of a sister who died from leukaemia.
The Gregg family come together from all parts of Britain and also Brussels for BUPA’s Great North Run on Sunday, September 18.
The family’s input to the charity event is being co-ordinated by Louie Gregg, an IT project manager at Warrington.
He joins siblings Margaret,41, from Stockton Heath, Warrington; Rosaline,42; Con, 47, from Brussels; Anne,39, from Reading; and Pauline,35, from Twickenham, to take on the world’s biggest half-marathon.
The family will be raising money for Leukaemia Research – especially poignant following the death of their 40-year-old sister, Catherine, from Longditton, Surrey.
Said Louie, 46: “Catherine was so brave throughout her fight. We all felt that we needed to do something to honour such a wonderful woman.”
He added: “It is just so devastating that she lost her battle”.
“The Great North Run will be a strongly emotional event for us. But it offers the chance of us combining forces to push ourselves. Hopefully, we’ll do Catherine proud”.
Margaret and Rosaline have been running for several years. They completed the BUPA run last year – though for the rest of the team the charity race is their big training target.
Rosaline lost nearly three stones after taking up running. Louie was 19-stones last September, but has since shed five stones and recently ran the Warrington 10k in 53 minutes,16 secs.
The family will be running past some of the north-east’s famous landmarks – alongside TV stars from ‘Emmerdale’ ‘The Bill’ and ‘Monarch of the Glen’, who have pledged their support.
