AN online petition has been launched in a bid to force Ministers to change their minds about imposing road tolls on Warrington residents to use the Mersey bridges at Runcorn.
The petition has been launched by Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Warrington South Nick Bent.
Without a u-turn by Ministers in Whitehall, Warrington drivers are facing expensive new road tolls to cross the Mersey at Runcorn, once the new Mersey Gateway Crossing is completed. Tolls of £2 (each way) will be imposed on both the new bridge and current Silver Jubilee Bridge.
“The so-called ‘discount pass’ for Warrington drivers will cost £90 per month, or over £1,000 per annum – and the tolls will cause more traffic congestion in Warrington and pose a threat to the town’s future prosperity,” said Mr Bent.
Government Ministers have already scrapped tolls completely for Halton residents, but so far the Conservative MP in Warrington South has failed to get the tolls scrapped for Warrington residents, he added.
Mr Bent is urging Warrington people to make their voice heard and to take 30 seconds to sign the petition and share the link on Facebook and Twitter.
He aims to get 1,000 signatures on the petition by Christmas.
