SOME 10 per cent of Warrington people who received a letter in August about changes to the voting system still haven’t responded.
So the borough council’s election team is now visiting the homes of people who still haven’t signed up to remind them to register on
the new, more secure, system of voter registration, known as Individual Electoral Registration (IER).
This replaces the old system where the “head of household” registered everyone living in a property. Now each person is registered individually.
The majority of residents have been automatically registered on the new system and don’t need to take any further action. However, some still need to re-register by filling in and returning the form they have received or by going online.
Everyone who needs to be registered has to do so before December 1.
It’s free, quick and easy to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
When signing up, residents will need to provide their name, address and nationality, national insurance number and date of birth.
