ANOTHER 840 children in Warrington are now in over-sized classes, it has been revealed. by Warrington North MP Helen Jones.
Speaking in a debate on infant class sizes, Ms Jones said the increase under the Tory/LibDem government has been 1,300%.
She said: “All the academic work on education shows that the first few years are vital to a child’s future performance. Over sized classes are not conducive to giving our children the best start they can possibly get. Smaller classes means teachers can spend more time with individual children and more time teaching rather than managing large numbers of pupils.
“Parents are becoming more and more aware of this problem – a recent survey by Netmums show that nearly one in five parents think that schools are squeezing too many children into classes.
“The government have caused this problem by misallocating funding away from basic need funding towards a range of other priorities which do not support keeping low class sizes. We need to change those priorities.”
