TWO semi-detached bungalows for the elderly are to be built on vacant land off Warrington Road, Culcheth.
They form part of a batch of 56 affordable homes for pensioners to be built by the borough council. Work could start in May following the grant of planning consent.
Total cost of the 56 homes is estimated at £6.6m and the aim is to cater for the rising number of older people in the borough.
Twenty per cent of the population of Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft are aged 65 or older, compared with 16.1 per cent for the borough as a whole.
Borough council chiefs have approve d a business case for building the properties.
The Culcheth site was formerly occupied by garages.
Two nearby residents lodged objections on the grounds of loss of parking space and privacy and noise issues.
