New flood warnings for Warrington

THE Environment Agency have today issued a number of flood warnings and alerts for the Warrington area.
All relate to the Mersey Estuary and areas affected are Bank Quay, Eastford Road, Fiddler’s Ferry and Arpley Bridge.
Heavy rain is forecast around midnight in the Warrington area and more rain is expected throughout the night.
Another burst of heavy rain is forecast around 3pm tomorrow. But it is strong winds and high tides on the Mersey that pose the greatest risks.
Warrington Borough Council has made sandbags available in various “at risk” areas, including the Ferry Tavern at Fiddler’s Ferry, where there was flooding last month.
Sandbags are also ready to deploy as required as a result of requests.
According to the Environment Agency, there is a risk of flooding in the Bank Quay area due to high tides on the Mersey.
Areas at risk include industrial units behind the railway embankment at Bank Quay Station and property around the Atherton Quay area.
In the Eastford Road area, houses on Eastford Road, backing onto the disused canal, properties on Baronet Road and Taylor Street closest to the junction with Eastford Road and Morley Common are at risk.
At Fiddler’s Ferry, property at risk includes the sailing club, the Ferry Tavern and the Riverside Trading Estate.
At Arpley Bridge, Chester Road between Brian Bevan Island and Arpley Railway Bridge and Arpley Road are at risk.
Main cause for concern in all areas is the high tide on the Mersey.
Warrington Borough Council says that in the event of further flood risks being known, up-to-date information will be made available on the website www.warrington.gov.uk/floods
