Contact centre to close on Saturdays

WARRINGTON’S flagship contact centre in Horsemarket Street is to close on Saturday mornings from this week.
The centre – hailed as a huge success when it opened in 2007 – looks to have been hit by the borough council’s economy axe.
More than 500,000 people used it in its first 12 months and staff won the Municipal Journal award for the “best workforce involvement in a significant organisation change.”
The number of people using the centre continued to grow and in August 2012 the council opened a satellite centre in Bank Street to ease the load on Horsemarket Street, where the number of walk-ins had increased by 20 per cent over the previous 12 months.
Although it was originally intended that both centres would be open on Saturday mornings, Bank Street has always operated Monday-Friday only.
Now Horsemarket Street will also be closed on Saturday mornings.
However, council chiefs say the New Year sees the introduction of a new out-of-hours automated telephone system, which will allow residents greater flexibility in accessing a wide range of council services. Further information will be made available soon.
Council services continue to be accessible via the website www.warrington.gov.uk including through the new “Report It” telephone app, which can be downloaded by simply visiting the council website from a mobile phone or tablet. Residents can also email [email protected]
