Pubs and clubs in security drive

SECURITY staff at some Warrington pubs and night clubs are sporting “anti-theft security wear” to remind customers of the need to look after their mobile phones and handbags.
The new black-and-silver jackets each carry a message about taking care of phones and handbags.
Security manager Keith Shaw said: “It’s just an extra reminder at
the right time and in the right place, so people will be a bit more vigilant as a result.”
Chairman of Warrington’s Community Safety Partnership and the borough council’s deputy chief executive Katherine Fairclough, said: “We welcome this initiative. It’s great to see Warrington’s pubs and night clubs showing responsibility and taking these small but important steps to help reduce crime and help people stay safe while they’re out having fun.”
Inspector Richard Spedding of Cheshire Police added: “We welcome the
initiative from town centre businesses to promote public safety and reduce crime. Theft of personal belongings is an issue in all town centres and in Warrington they tend to be opportunistic in nature. Anything to highlight the issue and to raise people’s awareness
about looking after their property we welcome.
“We have excellent relations with the security staff working in Warrington and this is another example of the efforts that we all
go to so that people can stay safe whilst enjoying themselves.
“If someone is unfortunate enough to become a victim of such a crime we would ask that they report the matter to Cheshire Police on telephone number 101.
“Every report will be investigated in co-operation with the town centre businesses.”
