Extra doctors and nurses drafted in at hospital

MORE doctors and nurses are being made available at Warrington Hospital as the number of people admitted for respiratory conditions rises.
The start of winter has resulted in more people being admitted, and the hospital trust had provided additional capacity on peak days by changing working patterns to make more staff available.
GPs across the borough are also actively managing patients before they become ill – providing antibiotic and steroid therapy for those patients who need it as acute or deferred prescription.
Dr Andy Davies (pictured), chairman of Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group and a GP at Greenbank surgery said: “If you need medicines for a long term respiratory condition make sure you have a current supply.
“And make sure you have got your self-management and actions plans up to date.
“Influenza will make existing conditions worse so protect yourself with a free flu jab.”
Recent analysis by NHS England shows respiratory disorders peak to twice the summer level over winter.
Mike Morgan, national clinical director for respiratory for NHS England, said: “People with existing chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) are particularly vulnerable.”
NHS England has also issued advice this winter specifically for patients with COPD.
The main points are: stay warm, keep active, and plan ahead with medication.
Fast medical advice is also available 24-hours a day by dialling 111.
