A 58-year-old woman falsely claimed benefit totalling £7,682 from Warrington Borough Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Susan Murrell, 58, of Albany Rd, Lymm, appeared at Halton Magistrates’
Court on and pleaded guilty to two counts of benefit fraud.
The court was told that between March 2010 and May last year Murrell falsely claimed £561 council tax benefit from the council and £7,121 employment support allowance from the DWP.
She was claiming the benefits as a single person when she was in fact living with her husband.
Murrell was sentenced to a 12 month community order with the requirement that she undertakes 240 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £200 towards prosecution costs and to repay the overpayment.
