OFFICES within historic Walton Hall can be equipped with 21st century communications facilities, planning chiefs at Warrington have decided.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee have grant Listed Building consent for a new fibre cable for an ethernet circuit in the estates office in the hall.
The fibre optic cable will be laid under the driveway and routed into the estates office – one of the oldest parts of the Grade 2 Listed building.
To avoid unsightly lengths of external ducting, the cable will be inserted through the brickwork at a low le vel.
The cable will be routed through the building in pvc trunking up to a communications at first floor level.
Councillors were told that historical mapping indicates the possibility of potentially contaminated land nearby, arising from dredging of the adjacent Bridgewater Canal in the past.
Extra care will have to be taken during the installation work to protect construction workers, future site users and the wider public from land contamination issues.
If any contamination is encountered it must be reported immediately and work halted until remedial work can be carried out.
