WARRINGTON’S Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School has been chosen to develop international links with Kaushayla World School, India as part of a major new school twinning project to boost global education.
Connecting Classrooms is a UK government and British Council education initiative and Boteler has been selected in recognition of its commitment to teaching pupils about global issues.
Teachers and pupils are working with Kaushayla World School in Greater Noida, India,to learn how to become responsible global citizens and to develop skills to work in a global economy.
Schools across the UK can benefit from a range of support offered by the scheme.
Assistant head teacher Liam Horrigan said: “The school is committed to the Connecting Classrooms programme as part of our drive to prepare students fully for their role in the Global workforce that they will join upon completing their education. We have identified curriculum areas through which we hope to develop links with Kaushayla World School, so that youngsters in both communities can benefit.”
Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening said:
“I am very pleased that Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School in Warrington is taking on this excellent opportunity to link with schools in other parts of our world.
“Young people and teachers can make a fantastic contribution by sharing the best of Britain with their peers around the world and at the same time, the great thing is that they can get invaluable knowledge of what life is like in other countries.
“Connecting Classrooms will enable pupils to learn about the world around them, about the facts of poverty that face children their own age in developing countries, and how education can help eradicate poverty. It will also benefit teachers by enhancing their professional skills.”
The programme will enable Mr Horrigan to take part in an exchange visit with Kaushayla World School and work on classroom-based projects together, with the aim of giving young people a unique and hands-on international learning experience.
An initial link has already been forged linked to architecture, and there is scope to develop further partnership work through geography, Citizenship, RE and Art.
Mr Horrigan added: “This partnership has lots of potential to introduce students from both schools to new cultural experiences and broaden minds. Sir Thomas Boteler CE High School will be hosting representatives of Kaushayla World School from November 9-14 and we hope to be able to showcase all that is good about Warrington and the young people from the town.”
