Hot food takeaway approved

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for a new hot food take away shop in Warrington town centre – despite objections from the occupants of nearby properties.
Ten neighbours had opposed the scheme – involving a former taxi office in Buttermarket Street – on the grounds of noise, smells, disturbance and parking problems
But members of the borough council’s planning committee were told the take away would cause less disturbance than the taxi office which had operated 24 hours a day.
The committee was told the property was sited in a row of commercial premises within a Conservation Area. It had a restricted parking area at the front.
Planning officers recommended approval because the change of use would have a neutral effect on the character of the area, with no loss of retail space and no impact on the vitality of the town centre.
The majority of customers were expected to be on foot and staff levels would not exceed the existing taxi office.
A small, single-storey rear extension would not be visible to most people passing the building.
