CHARITY group the Deafness Support Network spent a day in Warrington town centre raising awareness 0of the services and support available to people with hearing loss.
Taster session on British Sign Language (BSL), lip reading skills and techniques and other advice was given, together with information about how the charity can help deaf people.
Among those to drop in and see what the charity does was Warrington’s Mayor, Cllr Peter Carey.
Gill Reeder, DSN’s operations manager, said: “The event was a great success. There was a fantastic turn out and we were delighted that the Mayor made an appearance and attended one of the BSL taster sessions.
“We offer a wide range of support for D/deaf people and with a hearing loss but it can be a challenge getting the message out about the services we offer. We’d like to thank Golden Square for the provision of free space in the centre to help us spread the word.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, who work in partnership with DSN, were also on hand to offer advice about the best protocol for deaf people in emergencies.
