THE fifth annual produce show held by Oughtrington Community Orchard, at Lymm was judged the best yet.
Sunshine and a big attendance ensured the event got off to a good start and the standard of produce on show made judging a difficult task.
This year there were some special awards – three from the orchard, two from Lymm and district Round Table and one from Lymm Ladies.
Winners were: Best Home Brew Beer – Donald Reid; Best Homemade Loaf – George Wealthall; Favourite Bake – Caroline Royle; Best in Show the (Marquee) – Suzanne Gregory for her sweet corn; Best Home Made Produce – John Corbett for his blackberry jam; Best in the Children’s Classes – Emma Butterworth for her Piñata Cake.
A full list of winners can be seen at the website www.oughtrington.co.uk/orchard.
The orchard was decorated with guerrilla knitting made by Loving Hearts and Hands knitting group at Lymm Methodist church and some special orchard awards were made by the Make and Do Studio in Stockton Heath.
There were demonstations of the apple press
Fruit and veg experts from Star Lane allotments brought a massive pumpkin to test the crowd and were put to the test themselves firstly judging the entries in the marquee and then staying to answer questions.
In the marquee there was an impressive washing line of recipes – and organisers are still looking for more.
Recipes collected during the year will be used to prompt residents to use seasonal and local food in their cooking.
