Lotto players can make a difference closer to home

A LOCAL hospice is hoping Lotto players will support causes closer to home in Warrington as the National Lottery prepares to double the price of tickets.
From Thursday October 3, The National Lottery is increasing the price of a Lotto ticket from £1 to £2.
St Rocco’s Hospice is encouraging those who do not feel they can continue playing the Lotto due to the rise, to turn their attentions to their local charity.
St. Rocco’s has been running a lottery, since 1995. To date it has 10,000 members and has raised over £3 million, enough to run the Hospice for a whole year. Eric Russell, Trading Manager at St. Rocco’s, says, “It is important to us that people in Warrington can continue supporting their local hospice at a donation they can afford. Although the prize fund is smaller, the odds of winning are much better than that of the Lotto. And our prizes are still significant enough to make a difference to someone. We have a guaranteed 1st prize of £1,000 every week and our rollover 2nd prize can be up to £5,000. We also have 148 other smaller prizes each week.”
St. Rocco’s Lottery still only costs £1 per week to enter, and has no plans to match its fee with that of the Lotto.
The other benefit to supporting St Rocco’s Hospice is that the supporters can see exactly where and how their contribution is making a difference to local lives, and, indeed people who they may know.
St Rocco’s lottery organiser Eric Russell said, “Our lottery raises vital funds to support our daily work and future plans, while giving you the opportunity to win big cash prizes! All profits from the lottery go directly to the Hospice. So playing directly contributes to the care we provide – and does so much to help local people in Warrington and the surrounding districts. ”
