Half backs to miss Vikings clash

HALF backs Richie Myler and Lee Briers will once again be missing when Warrington Wolves host local rivals Widnes Vikings on Thursday evening at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, kick off 8pm.
Both half backs missed Warrington’s “scrappy” victory at home to Wakefield last weekend as the Wolves aim to finish their home league fixtures on a winning note.
The Vikings won the previous encounter between the sides back in March so the Wolves, who will also be without skipper Adrian Morley and centre Ryan Atkins, will be looking for revenge.
The Wolves have won nine consecutive league matches and with just three games of the regular season remaining will be aiming to enter the play-offs in winning form.
This week’s 19-man sees the return of forward Mike Cooper after a spell on the sidelines through injury.
Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “There’s always a lot of passion in these local derby games, both on the terraces and on the field.
“We will give them a healthy respect as always and are looking forward to an improved performance from ourselves; in defence we were pretty good the other day and hopefully we can keep that strong again but be a bit crisper with the ball.”
