POLICE and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire John Dwyer has launched a £100,000 fund for community groups and organisations to apply for funding of for community safety and crime prevention projects in the local community.
John Dwyer said: “I have spoken to many individuals, voluntary and community groups over the past six months who suggest ingenious ways of making a big difference with a little financial support. I am really excited about launching this fund which will make money available to projects in our communities and meet my aim to reduce crime.
I am also aiming to double the impact of my money by asking applicants to obtain match funding from local businesses and philanthropists who wish to demonstrate good corporate citizenship. This way, we can really begin to get lots of people involved in the local community.”
Applications for funding to a maximum of £5,000 can be made via Mr Dwyer’s website.
Projects will need to support objectives set out in Mr Dwyer’s Police &and Crime Plan including the reduction of crime, anti-social behaviour, rural, heritage and business crime, improving road safety or reducing the affects of drug and alcohol misuse.
Applications will also be considered favourably if they address the needs of victims or witnesses or which aim to tackle re-offending.
Local groups who would benefit from funding can find more details about how to apply on www.cheshire-pcc.gov.uk and assistance in developing an application will be made available, should people need it.
Mr Dwyer added: “I am trying to involve as many elements of the community as possible in this work in order that big differences can be made to make Cheshire an even safer place to live.”
