Takeaway plan refused for eighth time

PLANS for a hot food takeaway shop in a residential area of Warrington have been thrown out – for the eighth time in 30 years.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee unanimously agreed to refuse the application in a small shopping parade in Orchard Street, Fearnhead.
Seven previous applications had also been rejected – and one was also refused by an independent inspector after going to appeal.
Cllr Sheila Woodyatt told the committee: “I can’t believe how anyone would bother to submit this application after the previous history.
“I have every sympathy with the residents who objected.”
More than 60 letters of objection were received from nearby residents who claimed the development would result in increased noise, traffic, parking problems, litter, smells and anti-social behaviour.
They also pointed out there were four existing hot food takeaway shops within five minutes walk of the site.
Local councillor Billy Lines-Rowlands also opposed the scheme.
Planning officers recommended the proposal should be rejected.
They said noise would inevitably be generated by the take-away as a result of cars stopping and starting, car doors slamming, the playing of audio equipment and by people talking.
As it was a mainly residential area, with bungalows with open frontages, the proposed use was considered “highly inappropriate.”
The operation of the business into the late evening would cause a loss of amenity to nearby dwellings through additional noise and disturbance.
