School to get extra classrooms

PLANS for three additional classrooms have been given the go-ahead at a Warrington school built less than six years ago.
The extensions at St Elphin’s Fairfield CE Primary School were approved at the second time of asking.
Only last year, the borough’s planning committee refused a similar application because of fears about increased traffic and parking at the Farrell Street school caused by an increase in the number of pupils, parents and staff using the site.
The committee was told the school had gone to considerable lengths to consult with key stakeholders and also endeavoured to provide the mitigation measures recommended by highways chiefs to enable the scheme to accommodate the additional pupils.
In view of this, and a revised school travel plan, it was now considered the proposals were acceptable.
A planning spokesman said it was recognised there would be an increase in pupils and staff on site. However, the noise generation would not be out of place in such a location, nor overly excessive considering the open nature of the site.
There would not be any significant additional noise or disturbance than already created by the current use of the school.
