HS2 protest meeting

A NEW action group set up to oppose the preferred route for HS2 – phase two of the controversial high speed rail link – is to hold a public meeting next month.
Able to Stop HS2 has been set up by people living in the Agden, Broomedge and Lymm East areas.
The meeting will take place at Little Bollington Primary School on Tuesday, July 2 at 7.30pm.
There will be guest speakers and the aim is to give local residents an opportunity to learn more about HS2 – and plan how to stop it going ahead.
Able to Stop Hs2 has already organised an “awareness walk” along part of the preferred route for the railway through the local area.
More than 60 people started from the Wheatsheaf pub in Lymm, including families, friends, children, babies in pushchairs and dogs.
The 3.5 mile walk took in the beautiful views down Agden Brow to Agden Bridge, then along the Bridgewater Canal and on to Spring Lane, Lymm.
At key points on the walk specific facts were highlighted, such as which houses would be demolished, the necessary diversion of the A56 and Warrington Lane, plus the height above ground of the proposed rail track.
Group chairman Louise Grantham said: “We want to make everyone aware of the severe impact HS2 will have in this area.”
Residents are asked to support the group by emailing [email protected]
