Unwanted technology charity collection

LOCAL businesses can drop off their unwanted computers, laptops and mobile phones at Regus in Warrington during National Recycle Week (June 17-21).
The initiative will take place in partnership with Computers for Charities (CfC), a national charity that recycles IT equipment in aid of charitable, voluntary and educational organisations across the UK and in many developing countries.
Steve Purdy, Managing Director at Regus, said: “We are encouraging smaller businesses which have recently upgraded their IT equipment to bring along redundant computers, laptops and mobile phones to our centres so that, through Computers for Charities, they can be given a new lease of life.”
The Warrington Regus centre is based at Cinnamon House, Crab Lane in Fearnhead, and 33 other Regus centres across the north east, north west and Scotland are also taking part.
A Certificate of Data Destruction for equipment with hard drives will be provided and recycling is carried out in line with environmental and data protection regulations. A small donation towards this service would be welcomed by the charity, although not obligatory.
On Wednesday June 19 (3-4.30pm), there will also be the opportunity to see CfC’s unique “data destructor” machine crushing hard drives to ensure all data is destroyed, at the Regus Warrington centre on Cinnamon Park.
Simon Rooksby, chairman of Computers for Charities, said: “We are thrilled to be working with an international organisation such as Regus in helping to protect the environment and help good causes. We’ve recycled over 250,000 computers donated by businesses since being established in 1994 and I know what a difference our scheme can make.”
