ARMED police are reported to have descended on a Warrington housing estate earlier today following reports of a number of loud bangs which sounded like gun shots.
Startled residents in the Old Hall area saw a number of officers walking the streets in the Cavendish Close area following reports of loud bangs which sounded like gun shots being heard in the area.
One resident contacted warrington-worldwide in a bid to find out what was going on fearing someone had been shot.
But following extensive enquiries it was discovered that the loud bangs had been caused by a teenager letting off fire works.
A Police spokes person said: “At 11.20am today (Friday 31 May) police received reports of a number of loud bangs in the Cavendish Close area of Warrington.
“Officers swiftly arrived at the scene and made a search of the area. Following extensive enquiries it has since been established that the bangs were from large fireworks being let off in the area.
“A 19-year-old male has been spoken to by officers and has admitted to letting off the fireworks – he was subsequently offered very strong words of advice.”
