Priestley students rock Queen

BTEC Performing Arts students have staged one of the most ambitious productions ever to be produced by Priestley College.
We Will Rock You ran over three nights and was a sell-out with nearly 400 tickets sold.
Tutor Abbie Rippon said: “The hardest part is living up to the rock legends that are Queen and the audience’s expectations of how those songs should be performed, but our students rose to the occasion.
“We were delighted with the response from everyone who attended. The students created a real rock concert atmosphere by taking the performance out amongst the audience and they responded really well.”
More than 60 students brought Queen’s greatest hits back to life through their performances and amazing design and technical skills.
The show finished with a rousing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, which featured flawless lead vocals from Ben Cupit and an emotive performance from the ensemble.
Production arts students created costumes to suit the theme and with guidance from tutors the team put on a show to remember.
It took four months of preparation and opened on the 11th anniversary of the musical’s first night in the West End.
The students’ efforts will go towards their final BTEC grades.
Four of the exceptional performers have been offered places at some of the country’s most prestigious theatre schools.
“It was a great team effort and really was a memorable show,” said Abbie. “The students enjoyed it and the audience’s response was amazing.”
